Our Highest Good – Developing a Vision #2

We recently sang a song at Church called the New Doxology.  Its not really new, its the same song that has been sung for years, but it adds a bridge that says “Praise God, praise God, praise God, Who saved my soul.  Praise God, praise God, praise God from Whom all blessings flow.”  Great words.  Some churches and institutions sing the doxology every Sunday.  Its a great way to begin a service.

Giving glory to God is what every believer is called to do.  It is our highest good.  The Westminster Shorter Catechism asks the question “what is the chief end of man?”  They answer that it is “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”

At Central Manor we continue in the same tradition that has been followed since our inception.  We exist as a church to glorify God.  1 Corinthians 10:31 says it in a memorable way.  31So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (ESV)

This thought must be first and foremost in our minds before we set out to set a vision for the church.  It will help guide us.

Other scriptures: Psalm 84, Isaiah 60:21, Romans 11:36, 1 Corinthians 6:20, Revelation 4:11.
