Kids Ministry Update

Kids Ministry Families,

To say that past few months of ministry have been abnormal would be an understatement, but I want to provide you with an update of our plans for current and future Kids Ministry at Central Manor Church.

For the remainder of the summer, we are going to continue to offer combined Sunday School (2/3’s and 4/5’s, K – 2nd grade, and 3rd – 6th grade). We will not be having Kids Church during the 8:15 or 10:45 services. While some may view this as inconvenient, there are several advantages to this. It provides us opportunity to regroup and recruit new volunteers. Due to risks associated with COVID-19, some of our volunteers are not currently available and may not be for some time. If you have been utilizing CMC Kids Ministry but have not volunteered in the past, I ask you to prayerfully consider, so we can maintain a consistent and sustainable ministry to our kids and their families. However, for the time being, there is value in having our kids, even the youngest, present in corporate worship. It is important for kids to see their parents (especially their fathers) worship God and have opportunities to worship alongside. Use this moment as an opportunity to model what worship looks like and create expectations for worship at an early age. Believe me when I say that we are not concerned about extra noise or fidgety children present in the worship service.

For the Fall, our desire is to resume regular Kids Ministry on September 6th. This includes nursery, Sunday School, Kids Church, and AWANA. We have been making plans accordingly, and I have been working on scheduling for the Fall. There are, however, still unknowns. There are still looming questions about the nature and extent of COVID-19 itself and how to respond appropriately. There are some families who believe everything should operate as always before, there are some families who think that we should be extremely cautious, and there are families that believe we ought to take a moderate approach to re-opening. Please be patient and gracious toward those with differing opinions. Pray for wisdom. There is much to evaluate and many decisions to be made.

Our programs in the Fall may look a little different, at least temporarily, based upon a number of factors: staffing of volunteers, health considerations, capacity limitations, or personal protective equipment. When more decisions are made about the details of these programs, they will be communicated to our church families. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you have further questions, please get in touch with me.

Together in Christ,

Pastor Jeremy
